The Rangers have moved RHP Tanner Scheppers back to the bullpen in Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 44th overall pick in 2009 started the season in the bullpen and then moved to the rotation. He made six starts and had a 5.84 ERA in that span. He was solid in eight relief opportunities early in the season (1.89 ERA) as he was carefully monitored.
"In an effort to line up our depth for the Major League team for the stretch drive, we have moved Tanner Scheppers to the bullpen," assistant GM Thad Levine said via email. "Like we have done recently with some of our other prospect pitchers, we think that breaking Tanner into the Major League bullpen is a good way to start his transition to the majors. With our current pitching depth and our goal for Tanner for innings pitched this year, we feel that he can make the most impact as bullpen depth for the Major League team as we try to best position ourselves for playing meaningful games in September and beyond."
So look for Scheppers in that Rangers bullpen at some point soon this season. He could certainly have an impact down the stretch.
