So over the last few days/weeks the Rangers have signed, Harden, Vlad and Khalil Greene. All of them to 1 year deals. As a fan of the team I love winning and anyone that can help that, great! But at what cost? I enjoy having familiar names on the field, getting to meet the players and see them play through the years. I am sure I will enjoy rooting for and watching these 3 go at it for the Rangers but It gets hard to stay just a little detached from your own team’s players knowing there only here for a year.
I love knowing Ian and Michael are out there day after day and year after year, the ever-changing team leaves something missing for me. Most blame Free agency but it is more than that it is the business baseball has become so much money, so little loyalty, the coldest part of the game, that is not the game I love. Granted I have never been in a big leaguer’s shoes and had to make a contract decision but I just have the hardest time swallowing “I have to what is best for my family” when that is uprooting your family and moving across the country for a million dollars more. I guess business is business and the game has changed so I will learn to embrace the 1-year player each and every year although he can never be my favorite for just one year.
